i wanted to start tracking my times on my bike rides. I used to use MyTracks but the app support has been dropped. I liked that it gave periodic updates on time, average speed, and distance. Any recommendations on what to use instead? Android phone

I have had very good luck with MapMyRide . For basic tracking of routes, miles and times you can use it for free. It also keeps a record of your rides, and can be used for cycling and walks.

Strava, is the one true cycling app. Should be supported on android according to their FAQ. I use it on my phone and upload GPS files from my Garmin Edge 20. I prefer to use the garmin since it doubles as a cycling computer and route finder.

I’ve been using MapMyRide for a few years now and really like it. Even with the free version you get a lot of features and it syncs to the cloud so you can check out rides after the fact on the internet.

Most cycling buddies I have use strava. Tracks moving time, average speed, elevation gain, total distance, and breaks the ride into “segments” so you can compare time over a segment of the ride.

If you are into making new routes you can make segments within Strava, they can be private or public. I have a route to my house that is private so I can track how slow I’m going.

In lieu of Strava that was already mentioned, Endomondo isn’t bad. It will work off the phone’s GPS to track your workouts. Just tell it when you start your workout and when you end.

If you were on Strava you could join club oppositelock.

Strava was what I was going to recommend too.

As already mentioned, Strava.

If there are other people using Strava who are following the same routes, you can join in on leader boards and compare times. It’s fun to sandbag at the beginning of a ride so you have the energy to smash the leader’s record on a segment. Think of it as an impromptu time trial.
